The I Ching, also known as the Book of Changes (易經), is one of the oldest texts in human history, dating back over 3,000 years to ancient China. This oracle uses Plum Blossom Numerology (梅花易數, Méihuā Yìshù), a divination method created by the Song Dynasty master Shao Yong (邵雍, 1011–1077 CE) — one of the most brilliant minds of the Neo-Confucian era.

Legend has it that Shao Yong was sitting in his garden one winter afternoon when he noticed two sparrows fighting over a plum blossom branch. In that fleeting moment — the angle of the sun, the number of the sparrows, the hour of the day — he perceived a hexagram, and from it, predicted what would happen next. Plum Blossom Numerology was born.
